Starting at Mike Ward Park located at 20 Lake Road, Irvine, CA (Lake and Alton Parkway), there are four great routes to choose from for this year’s OC Gran Fondo. As always there are our two long routes taking you along our scenic bike ways here in Irvine and Newport Beach.
After traveling down Pacific Coast Highway, the ride takes you up the Santa Ana River Trail, 14 miles of non-stop riding with zero cars to worry about.
After the river trail ends, you head up through Orange County’s famed Santiago Canyon. At the end of the canyon the 101 mile riders split off to tackle Live Oak Canyon and then enjoy a screaming trip through the downhill portion of Santiago Canyon. The 64 mile riders are treated to a nice downhill on El Toro Rd. back to the start point.
After several long downhill sections, the 101 miles make their way around the Great Park (formerly the El Toro Marine Corp airbase) and back to the start.
The 30 mile riders get to enjoy the numerous paved bike trails Irvine has to offer. The majority of the 30 mile ride travels along these bike paths. The 11 mile ride is meant for the entire family and uses only bike paths for the entire ride. It is an out-and-back course with a rest stop half way.
